St Michael’s Family Centre Cultural Capital statement of intent

1. Celebrating cultural festivals and traditions:

We Introduce children to a variety of cultural festivals and traditions to build cultural capital. For instance, celebrating Diwali, Chinese New Year, Eid, or Christmas in the classrooms helping children learn about different cultures and develop an appreciation for diversity.

2. Involving families and communities to reflect the diversity of local community and families that attend the family centre:

We Invite parents and community members to share their family backgrounds to provide rich, authentic learning experiences. This not only enhances cultural capital but also strengthens the connection between home and early years settings. We make use of our local community to allow the children to experience awe and wonder by visiting places like the town library, museum or going to the park.

3. Learning through play:

We get to know our children and plan play-based learning that reflects the diversity and experiences of our children. We provide an exciting and wide range of resources to encourage our children to explore, develop skills and knowledge to be ready for the next stage in their learning and understand the world around them.
